My Favorite Freebie

Link up here
Cynthia over at
Welcome to 2nd Grade Pad

is hosting the above linky. Love Love this idea! Here is mine

Most Common Words 1-600

KEY....

It is my favorite because...
I just love when I cutesify things for the kids.

The story behind it...
We test our Title Reading groups on Dolch sight words. When the students pass up to their grade level, we move on to Most Common words. Last spring, I was having a hard time getting the kids to study these words, on the plain paper cards we had them on. So I decided to make them cute .

How to use it...
I printed one set of each in color(back to back), (good thing that was last year prior to the copy & print limits) laminated them, and put in binder for the kids to test off. I made each student a set in b&w to keep running records on. The kids LOVE Them.

Thanks Cynthia for a great idea.

Don't forget to enter my giveaway HERE

So begins the work on my personal classroom library, but also those of my coworkers(this mean's you Mrs Firstgradestamper). When my niece was here, I showed her how I could scan my books into the computer using my iphone and scanner. When it comes to reading, she takes after me. She read books like it was going out of style, she found my Berenstain Bears' Chapter books, and had to take a few home back to MD!

Tonight, I saw the below post from Erica Bohrer's fb PAGE!

Silhouette CAMEO Info

When I find something I think someone would like I share it. Just ask my coworkers, they tend to get ALOT of emails from me with links to various blogs, TPT, Teachers Notebook. LOL......As you know I got a Silhouette Cameo for Christmas. What I have done so far is wonderful. I have enabled many of teacher bloggers with codes etc. As they mentioned they were thinking of buying one. Now I don't get paid from Silhouette to promote their product, just wanted to share about this tool all in one post. So here we go.....

HERE is what I have done with mine (school and home were crazy, but LOVE this machine will share more as I use it more this summer)

What I love about it is that I can cut ANY of my 5 billion free fonts. I also love that I can trace images and the machine will then cut them.......I have a subscription from their store.  HERE is more info from the company. HERE is a link for their teacher's discount.

I also can use the svg's from Lettering Delights

I love THESE classes about Silhouette from Kerri Bradford (see picture for details on sale going on) You, like me are busy, these are self paced, so you can buy them at discount and do them later.

My pinterest board for all things Silhouette is HERE

I bought mine HERE (ok fine my mom did with discounts but still)

Others have bought theirs Here (some have been able to use coupon codes to get discounts, shipping is slow but at a discount the wait is worth it, current codes Use Coupon Code 5OFF20 for $5 off any order,Use Coupon Code 10OFF40 for $10 off any order over $40,Use Coupon Code 25OFF100 for $25 off any order over $100)

I get my vinyl at both places, but mostly get from HERE they also sell the Cameo, they are awesome in shipping and customer service! Stalking the postman for printable vinyl and patterned vinyl order...oh the projects that are running thru my head.

Now I have asked silhouette if they would like to expand their market to teachers, and the reply is always a link to their discount program. With the crafty blogs they will send Cameos for the blogger to giveaway and offer a discount for non winners. Below are some of the current crafty blog Cameo giveaways.

A few Classroom pics

Along with school, life has been so crazy busy I am finally getting around to the projects for the classroom.

First this is something I did at the beginning of the year, as you know Labby is my "mascot" so I have a few
dog themed items in my room.

These are under my whiteboard with these in them.

Then on top of my cabinets

Various Dogs and Dog "themed" books

Now for the whiteboard, I was constantly writing the schedule up on the board so I had some magnetic picture frames (4x6) used some thistle girl, LD, graphics and viola

Here's a little better close up of what is in each frame

The magnets at the top are from Vistaprint

Now the project that has dual purpose .....One to decorate and 2 for the kids to use!
I came across Deanna Jump's Guided Reading 101: Printables, Strategies and Word Work here I fell in love! Then also I loved Brenda Frady's Beanie Baby Comprehension Posters here. So I combined the strategies ....but then came the search for all of the beanie babies, and how to get them on the wall! A trip to Walmart, had me looking for Command Clips but @ 4.50 a piece ....then I turned down the storage aisle and my wheels started turning. Those drawer dividers that are 3/$1.47 kinda looked like cages.....Here's what they looked like ......

Add black & silver paint, a little suitcase lock, and you have cages for the beanie babies!

Here are what they look like up (forgive the slanting and tilting my room averages around 80 degrees so I battle keeping things on the wall, the command hooks stay for the most part but tape is another story)

There you have some of what I have been working on, of course we have been warned Massive budget cuts are coming, so I will probably will get this finally the way I like it, and either have to move out or not have a job.....OY.....Thanks for stopping by.....Let me know what you think!

Most Common Word Freebies

When you get behind on reading blogs, when you finally catch up you realize someone is not posting. You figure like you school got busy. But you check back every so often. I checked in on Pamela's blog just at the beginning of January as not to look for her fabulous freebies she always linked up, but I was starting to wonder. Then just the other night Tamara posted this on TBA....

I am very sad to share with you that Pamela Woods of The Vintage Teacher has passed away. I had the privilege of getting to know Pam through emails and blogging and I really admired her passion for education. She loved what TBA represented, as well as other collaborative blogs. She will be dearly missed by so many.

"Here is a note from Pam's family- Pam was a dedicated teacher for years and education was always an important part of her life and the lives of those around her. Pam was a friend to many and helpful in providing insight and educational tidbits to others when they asked for help. Outside of education, Pam was involved with her church family and maintained relationships with family and friends over facebook.

Pam will be missed by many and will always be remembered for the impact she had on education and children. Thank you for following her blogs and being a part of her life. As her family and friends, we are sure that you had a positive impact on her each and every day. Thanks for honoring her in this way and helping us share her story with others. "

There is a special place in heaven for this woman I am sure! Pam, thanks for all you did to help children not just in your classrooms, but ours too! If you want to leave a message on her last post click Here.
